Iredell Health System has announced the appointment of Andrew R. Ross as its new Director of Education. Ross brings significant experience from his more than 24 years in Emergency Medical Services, where he served as a paramedic and expanded his roles to include 911, critical care, and mobile integrated healthcare.

Ross found his passion in education through his experience as a preceptor, which shifted his focus from patient care to educating healthcare providers. “I learned that I had a passion for teaching after becoming a preceptor, causing me to refocus my career from patient care to provider education,” Ross stated. His research interests are centered around educational theory, bioethics, and mobile integrated healthcare.

With over 18 years of experience as an educator, mainly at community colleges, Ross has led one of the largest EMS education programs in North Carolina. His teaching has reached emergency medical technicians, paramedics, registered nurses, and physicians.

His educational background includes an AAS in Emergency Medical Sciences from Gaston College, a BS in psychology from Fayetteville State University, and an MHA from the University of Scranton. Ross is currently pursuing a PhD in leadership at Liberty University. His certifications include National Registry Paramedic (NRP), IBSC Community Paramedic (CP-C), IBSC Flight Paramedic (FP-C), and IBSC Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C). Additionally, he is a certified instructor with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and the American Heart Association.

Expressing enthusiasm for his new position, Ross said, “I have historically worked for community-based healthcare organizations. What drew me to Iredell was the positive response from the community, as well as IHS's mission and dedication to both their patients and employees. I am very excited about the potential this organization has to help the community. I truly believe that healthcare education is the cornerstone of the care we provide. I am looking forward to helping IHS bring top-tier education to its staff so as to better benefit those we serve.”

Outside his professional commitments, Ross enjoys family time, playing music, and reading.
