Iredell Memorial Hospital's main laboratory in Statesville, North Carolina, has been reaccredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This recognition follows a recent on-site inspection conducted as part of CAP’s Accreditation Programs. The accreditation is known for its rigorous standards that aim to enhance quality and reduce risk, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes.

Dr. Asha C. Sigei, the facility's director, was informed about the global recognition and praised for the high-quality services provided. "I am not surprised that our lab has received CAP reaccreditation," said Sigei. She credited the achievement to her highly trained team comprising certified phlebotomists and medical technologists who adhere to detailed laboratory standards and procedures.

Mark Berry, Laboratory Director at Iredell Health System, expressed his appreciation for being part of a dedicated team striving to meet or exceed CAP standards. "The Laboratory team at Iredell Health System has always strived to meet or surpass the highest standard of quality and safety by the standards of the College of American Pathologists," he stated.

Joshua Self, Vice President of Operations, also acknowledged the hard work of the lab staff in achieving reaccreditation. "Our lab has successfully achieved CAP reaccreditation, thanks to the dedication and expertise of our incredible lab staff," he said.

The CAP accreditation process involves a thorough review by inspectors who assess laboratory records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs, and overall management practices. These inspections ensure adherence to best practices in laboratory medicine.

CAP supports over 23,000 laboratories worldwide with proficiency testing programs and quality improvement tools aimed at maintaining excellence across all areas of laboratory operations. As an organization representing board-certified pathologists globally, CAP advocates for excellence in pathology practice through its various programs.
