MOORESVILLE FIRE-RESCUE: Hiring For Firefighter Position

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides responses to fire and medical emergency calls; participates in hazardous material response and prevention program; assists EMS staff; responds to mutual aid calls. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fire including rescue, entry, ventilation and salvage work; connects homes to hydrants; uses hoses to apply water or chemicals to fire; forces entry into burning structures; searches for and rescues occupants.

 Performs routine maintenance and servicing of equipment including washing and waxing trucks, checking batteries, checking fuel and oil levels, cleaning and drying hoses. Inspecting hose and hose connections for damage and wear; flowing, servicing and painting fire hydrants. Participates in continuing education training programs; serves in the absence of the senior firefighter once trained. Maintains, performs minor repairs, and cleans assigned fire station quarters, apparatus room and grounds. 

Reports facility maintenance, radio, vehicle and equipment problems to appropriate level of authority. Participates in public education and relations programs; conducts tours, distributes and installs smoke detectors. 

Completes reports and completes the fire report program database. Installs and checks smoke detectors. Gives tours of fire station and fire truck to school and community children’s groups. May be required to drive apparatus to incident scene; properly places apparatus to establish water supply; ensures proper operation and pressures of hoses; issues equipment and monitors radio traffic; returns apparatus and related equipment to service. Based on assignment, may have hazardous materials or rescue duties. Performs other duties as required.

 Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
