MOORESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT: Man Faked Kidnapping And Tried To Extort Ransom Money

Mooresville Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 6. 

On July 29, Mooresville Police responded to a report of a kidnapping. Joseph Dickerson, 40, of Charlotte told a relative he had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom. Upon investigation, Mooresville Detectives, along with Officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team and Homicide units, located Dickerson and determined he fabricated the kidnapping to extort money from a relative. 

Dickerson was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was given a $50,000 secured bond.
