Bethany Presbyterian Church recently issued the following announcement.
This meeting online after worship has two purposes.
- Approve the call of Danielle Merseles to be our installed Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adult Ministries. This action will include approving the terms of her call (salary.).
- Approve the terms of call for Pastor Doug Kelly.
Presbyterian Polity 101 for the inquiring mind: The Presbyterian process of decision making usually leaves decisions to elders; in fact, the word for elder in the Bible "presbyteros" is the source of our denomination's name. However, elders on our Session (our board) cannot make four kinds of decisions on their own. These are reserved for the congregation to discern. Two of those decisions are the calling of pastors to installed positions and the approval of pastor's terms of call. (By the way, the other two decisions only the congregation can make are the election of church officers and the selling, purchasing or renting of property.)
