FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOTICE OF OPERATIONAL CHANGES AT IREDELL COUNTY SOLID WASTE

INTENDED TO LIMIT COVID-19 EXPOSURE POTENTIAL

Statesville, N.C. (March 23, 2020)

Iredell County Solid Waste is taking steps to reduce the potential for spread of the COVID-19 virus by taking the following actions. The intent of these actions is to limit services to those only necessary to maintain public sanitation. Effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020, only household waste and recyclables will be accepted at the three convenience sites. The affected sites are the 901 Site located at 866 West Memorial Highway, Harmony; the Central Site located at 3918 Wilkesboro Highway, Statesville and the West Iredell Site located at 257 Watermelon Road, Statesville. The acceptance of construction and demolition materials is suspended at these sites until further notice.

Construction and demolition waste will continue to be accepted at the Twin Oaks Solid Waste Facility located at 354 Twin Oaks Road in Statesville and the Mooresville Transfer Station located at 158 MacLeod Drive in Mooresville but can only be paid for by credit card or commercial charge account. Cash transactions will not be allowed to limit potential exposure from the exchange of money.

Citizens are urged to remain in their vehicles, be patient until their turn to unload occurs, as site traffic will be controlled allowing safe separation of persons on site, and adhering to “Social Distancing” recommendations. As this situation with COVID-19 is developing daily, these changes are subject to modification.
