County of Iredell issued the following announcement on Feb. 19.

Date/Time of Offense: Sunday, February 5, 2023. 

Offense(s)/Charge(s): Felony Trafficking in Heroin (Fentanyl)

                                      Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for a Controlled Substance

                                      Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Location of Incident: 152 Mount Mourne Loop, Mooresville.

Suspect(s): Ronnie Lynn Benfield, 55 Years Old

                    152 Mount Mourne Loop 

                    Mooresville, North Carolina 28115        

Sheriff Darren Campbell: On Sunday, February 5, 2023, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy Zalepka responded to an assist agency call involving a hit-and-run automobile accident the Mooresville Police Department was investigating. 

After arriving on the scene of the accident, Ronnie Lynn Benfield spoke with Deputy Zalepka about narcotics and him having some at his residence at 152 Mount Mourne Loop.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputies went to 152 Mount Mourne Loop, where a search was conducted. Upon searching the residence. Deputy Zalepka located several chunks of a white substance covered in water in the kitchen sink. Tests of the substance were conducted, revealing the substance to be Fentanyl. 128 ounces of Liquid Fentanyl was collected from the sink. Deputy Zalepka also located a loaded Ruger nine-millimeter handgun in the residence. 

Deputy Zalepka obtained arrest warrants on Ronnie Lynn Benfield for; Felony Trafficking in Heroin (Fentanyl), Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for the Sale or Use of a Controlled Substance, and Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. After being served with the warrant, Benfield appeared before Magistrate R. Imes, who issued a 1,000,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
