County of Iredell issued the following announcement on Jan. 5.

Date/Time of Offense: Saturday, December 31, 2022.

Offense(s)/Charge(s): Misdemeanor Carrying Concealed Gun

                                      Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

                                      Felony Trafficking in Heroin

                                      Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Heroin

                                      Felony Possession of Fentanyl

                                      Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana

                                       Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia

                                       Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

                                      Felony Introducing Contraband into a Jail

Location of Incident: Garner Bagnal Boulevard and Cochran Street Intersection, Statesville.

 Suspect(s): Cameron Alfonzo Bacon, 20 Years Old

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, December 31, 2022, Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team were working a multi-agency drivers checkpoint on Garner Bagnal Boulevard and the intersection of Cochran Street.

While working the checkpoint, a Honda Civic approached the checkpoint occupied by Kayla Meeks, Cameron Bacon, and Juaon Black. 

Juaon Black was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license. While an officer spoke with Black, Deputy B. Best approached the vehicle on the right rear passenger side and observed Cameron Bacon reach for a handgun lying on the floorboard. 

Deputy Best ordered Bacon to put his hands above his head, where he was then taken into custody. 

Bacon was searched after his arrest, and deputies located 13 Grams of Heroin and 61 Grams of Marijuana in his possession. 

Kayla Meeks was found to be in possession of a semi-automatic handgun located hidden inside a backpack she had in her possession.

Juaon Black was found to be in possession of a misdemeanor amount of marijuana. He was issued a citation and released at the scene. 

Both Cameron Alfonzo Bacon and Kayla Loreal Meeks were arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center.

Bacon was charged with, Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Handgun, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Trafficking Heroin, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Heroin, Felony Possession of Fentanyl, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance Inside a Jail, Misdemeanor Possession with Intent to Deliver/sell Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. He received a 497,500.00 dollar secured bond from Magistrate Callejas.  

Meeks was charged with, Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Handgun. She received a 5,000.00 dollar secured bond from Magistrate Callejas.

BOND: 497,500.00 DOLLARS SECURED BOND.

Criminal history: Four Counts of Felony Breaking & Entering, Felony Probation Violation

Kayla Loreal Meeks, 18 Years Old

3227 Burbank Drive

Charlotte, North Carolina 28216

BOND: 5,000.00 DOLLARS SECURED BOND.
