North Carolina's tax reform efforts seem to continue to pay off as the state is a destination for businesses and people seeking a better life.

In a news release on Aug. 24, the state Republican House Caucus highlighted four actions that have helped turn North Carolina's fortunes around.

Since taking control of the Legislature, 99% of residents pay less in taxes than they did in 2016, the Republican news release said. The burden of taxes was lowered for hundreds of thousands of state residents who pay no state income tax. There are also standard tax deductions that have more than tripled from $6,000 to $20,000 for married couples. The workforce is also benefitting as 1.5 million workers owe no state income tax because they fall into the Republican's zero tax bracket.

Republicans compare the result to decades of leadership highlighted by teacher furloughs, businesses closed, and a $1.5 billion budget deficit the GOP press release reported.

"... Democrats are still unwilling to take part in tax relief that has helped so many families make ends meet," the Republican Caucus said in the release.
