John Locke Foundation Chairman John Hood believes that schools should reopen in the fall and that North Carolinians will not allow Gov. Roy Cooper to attempt a second shutdown, The Record and Landmark reported.
The Record and Landmark published an op/ed piece from Hood on June 14.
When COVID-19 struck earlier this year, most were willing to stay home to flatten the curve, but no one wanted to stay home indefinitely, Hood wrote in the op/ed article.
Hood wrote that North Carolinians will not put up with a second shutdown after seeing the calls for flattening the curve morph into staying home to stay safe and even seeing judges strike down his policies.
"To borrow a phrase: let me be clear. Our schools will reopen this fall," Hood wrote. "And Cooper should not attempt a second shutdown. North Carolinians won’t allow it."
Residents saw North Carolina's "distance learning" turn out to be ineffectual and watched as protests occurred and while experts at first said masks weren't useful and then changed their tune, saying they were needed, Hood wrote in his opinion piece.
