To reduce the spread of the highly-contagious COVID-19 virus, the Iredell County Solid Waste department said it is making changes to protect residents from coronavirus.

According to the March 24 notice, the three convenience sites will only accept recyclables and household wastes. These sites include the West Iredell Site on 257 Watermelon Road, the 3918 Wilkesboro Highway’s Central Site and the 866 West Memorial Highway’s 901 Site.

Until the new resolutions are suspended, any demolition or construction materials will not be accepted at these sites. Such materials will only be accepted by the 158 MacLeod Drive’s Mooresville Transfer Station and 354 Twin Oaks Road’s Twin Oaks Solid Waste Facility. However, cash payment in these facilities is not allowed, and any payment has to be either through a commercial charge account or a credit card.

Due to social distancing rules, people are encouraged to remain in their cars and wait for their turn to unload.
