BARIUM SPRINGS – Children's Hope Alliance recently notified more than 4,500 patients of a potential data breach that may have exposed their private health information after an employee's laptop was stolen.
As reported in a Health It & CIO Report article, the employee's laptop, which contained patient's names, addresses, Social Security numbers, birth dates, passwords and other information, was stolen in October 2019.
A statement by Children's Hope Alliance warned those patients who could be potentially impacted to monitor their account statements and credit reports.
"Children’s Hope Alliance encourages potentially impacted individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud, to review account statements and to monitor their credit reports and explanation of benefits forms for suspicious activity," the North Carolina-based nonprofit stated on its website notification.
