Sheriff Darren Campbell said on April 28 that deputies from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a shooting at a residence on Mott Road, Mooresville, at approximately 3:45 p.m. Deputies found an adult male victim with a gunshot wound seated in a vehicle in the driveway. The victim told deputies he had been shot by an unknown individual and was transported by Iredell County EMS to Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The incident is under investigation by detectives and crime scene investigators who arrived at the scene shortly after. Two adult females were inside the home during the incident. According to Campbell, interviews revealed that one of these females fired the shots. Evidence indicated that the victim brought the firearm into the residence, and investigators also found evidence of illegal narcotics inside.
Further investigation determined there was a physical altercation inside involving both females and the victim before he was shot in the chest.
In other matters related to Iredell County schools, data show that among senior students taking science portions of the ACT exam during the 2022-23 school year, 27 percent were considered ready for college according to state education data. For juniors taking science portions of ACTs, about 28.8 percent met college readiness benchmarks according to state education data.
On reading assessments for seniors during this period, roughly 36.8 percent achieved scores considered ready for college according to state education data, while juniors reached a similar rate at about 37.2 percent according to state education data. In math sections of ACTs for seniors and juniors respectively, about 26.2 percent and 25.3 percent met college readiness standards according to state education data.
The sheriff’s office reports that criminal charges may be forthcoming as their investigation continues.
