A neighbor’s vigilance led to the arrest of a suspect following two break-in incidents in Mooresville, according to a May 5 news release from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
The case highlights the importance of community awareness and timely reporting. The prompt action by a local resident allowed deputies to respond quickly and investigate suspicious activity at a Lakeshore Drive residence while the homeowners were away.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said, “On Friday, May 1, 2026, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported breaking and entering at a residence on Lakeshore Drive in Mooresville.” Deputies spoke with a neighbor who had noticed signs of forced entry. They found that the rear sliding glass door had been removed from its track and conducted a protective sweep of the home. During this sweep, they discovered evidence including a blood trail throughout the house. Detectives from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the scene for further evidence.
As deputies continued their investigation, they learned about additional suspicious activity at the home on April 30. Witnesses reported seeing lights on inside and an open garage door. One resident also reported hearing screaming and seeing an erratic male near the property. Authorities later identified an attempted break-in at another nearby residence on Viewpoint Drive.
Deputies traced their suspect to an Airbnb property nearby where they encountered Cameron John Walker, age 33, of Dorchester, Ontario. He matched witness descriptions and was wearing clothing seen in surveillance footage from one incident location. Walker also had injuries consistent with those found at one crime scene and was taken into custody without incident.
Walker faces charges including felony second degree burglary and felony attempted breaking and entering related to both incidents. Magistrate Callejas issued him a $75,000 secured bond following his arrest. According to information provided by authorities in Canada as cited by Sheriff Campbell: “Criminal History from Canada: Obstruct Peace Officer, Uttering Threats, Three Counts of Assault, Resist Arrest, Assault on a Peace Officer, Fail to Comply with Probation, Breach of Recognizance, Assault with a Weapon, Fail to Comply with Order.”
The broader impact underscores how attentive neighbors can play an important role in preventing crime within communities.
