Moms for Liberty – Iredell County has endorsed Laketha Bobish in the race for the Iredell-Statesville School (I-SS) Board District 2 seat. In-person early voting began on Feb. 15 for the March 5 primary election.

“Laketha is passionate about education, our Constitutional rights and the Holy Bible,” said Kelli Harris, Iredell Chapter Chair. “Moms for Liberty – Iredell is thankful for her bold stance, fixed principles, and desire to serve on the Iredell-Statesville School Board.”

In a candidate questionnaire provided by Moms for Liberty, Bobish outlined her objectives if elected to the I-SS Board. “I would like to accomplish being a voice for families in education as many parents have felt they do not have a seat at the table when it comes to policy that affects their students. The parents bill of rights is one such piece of legislation that I will continue to advocate for while on the board and ensure that schools in the district are abiding by the language presented in the bill. Parents should feel they have a right and a say in their child’s education, medical care, and safety while attending public schools. Every child has a right to a public education, and I want to be a voice for any family that feels they are not being heard or respected in this area.”

According to the same questionnaire, Bobish opposes teaching minors that gender is something they can change, comprehensive sex education and sexually explicit materials in school libraries, Critical Race Theory, Marxism/socialism/communism, and “woke social emotional learning.”

In addition to being a mother of children enrolled in local public schools, Bobish also volunteers as a mentor for the Pregnancy Resource Center’s Truth Girlz program. This after-school initiative “teaches middle and high school girls what it is to grow up and into a young woman through biblical truths and provides a loving and safe space for girls to express their hearts and ask hard questions,” says Bobish.

As stated in the I-SS Board of Education manual, the Board comprises seven members with terms lasting four years each. These terms are staggered so that three or four new members are elected every two years. Members are elected on a partisan basis.

Moms for Liberty is an advocacy group promoting parental rights in education. It was founded by Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich, both former school board members. According to its website, Moms for Liberty is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting parents in the pursuit of liberty.
