On April 22, nurses Pam Gill and Lisa Warren from Iredell Health System presented a Guardian Angel pin to the daughters of Wanda Bryan. Just four days later, Bryan passed away after battling colon cancer.
Bryan was remembered as a dedicated nurse with over 39 years of service. Her colleagues described her as “a shining light,” “a great role model,” and “an awesome nurse.” These sentiments led to her recognition as a Guardian Angel through the program that allows patients and their families to honor healthcare workers who have positively impacted them.
Warren praised Bryan for going above and beyond for her patients, while Gill recalled working with her in critical care, noting her positive influence on those around her. Beyond the hospital, Bryan’s dedication was evident when she saved a life by performing CPR during a beach trip.
Bryan held various positions at Iredell Health, including roles in the Cath Lab and as a PICC nurse. She also worked at other institutions such as UNC Health Rex Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield NC.
Her legacy continues through her daughters Emily Harris, Lindsey Galliher, and Rachel Adkins. Galliher works as an emergency department nurse at Iredell, while Harris is a pulmonary medicine nurse practitioner.
The Guardian Angel Program began in 2024 to recognize impactful hospital staff members. It is part of the Grateful Patients & Families fund established in 2022 to support patient needs within Iredell Health System.
Donations to this fund can be made through iredellhealthfoundation.org or by calling 704-878-7669. Recipients are notified of gifts but not donation amounts; donors receive tax deduction information.
