The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 1 that a six-month investigation into crack cocaine sales has resulted in multiple felony charges and the seizure of drugs and cash.
The announcement comes as law enforcement continues efforts to address drug-related crime in the county. The investigation, led by the Sheriff’s Narcotics Division with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, focused on disrupting local narcotics trafficking operations.
According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, Larry Darnell Robinson was identified as a key figure in the case. Detectives also linked Harold Lee Jackson and Erica Nicole Ramsey to the operation. On April 29, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Herbert Lane in Statesville connected to Jackson, who is awaiting trial elsewhere for cocaine trafficking. Authorities seized about half an ounce of crack cocaine, 135 grams of marijuana, and $17,000 believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Sheriff Campbell said detectives expect more arrests as they continue reviewing evidence gathered during surveillance and undercover operations. He encouraged residents with information about illegal drug activity to contact law enforcement anonymously through the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office mobile app or by phone.
While public safety remains a concern for local officials, educational achievement data provides additional context for community well-being. Of 1,980 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in Iredell County school districts during the 2022-23 school year, only 27 percent were considered ready for college according to state education data. For junior students that year (2,140 tested), just under 29 percent met college readiness benchmarks in science according to state education data.
Reading scores show similar trends: among seniors tested (1,980), nearly 37 percent were deemed ready for college-level reading according to state education data, while juniors (2,140) saw slightly higher readiness at just over 37 percent according to state education data. In math achievement among seniors (1,980 tested), roughly one-quarter demonstrated college readiness according to state education data; juniors showed comparable results with about one-quarter meeting standards out of those tested (2,140) according to state education data.
Officials say these ongoing investigations and educational outcomes reflect broader challenges facing Iredell County communities.
