Iredell County officials recognized National Correctional Officers Week on May 4, highlighting the dedication of detention officers. The county thanked officers for their ongoing work in maintaining order and safety within local facilities.
National Correctional Officers Week serves as a reminder of the important role these officers play in keeping detention centers secure. Their responsibilities include managing challenging situations and ensuring operations continue around the clock.
“This week, we recognize the dedication of our detention officers during National Correctional Officers Week. Day in and day out, they put in the hard work. Maintaining order, ensuring safety, and handling situations most never see. It’s a job that never closes, never slows down, and never takes a day off,” officials said. “Thank you for your commitment, your resilience, and the role you play in keeping our facilities running safely and securely. We see you. We appreciate you.”
The recognition comes as educational data shows that Iredell County school districts are also focused on preparing students for future roles in public service or other careers. Of senior students taking the ACT science portion during the 2022-23 school year, 27% were considered ready for college; among juniors it was 28.8%. For reading readiness on the ACT, seniors reached 36.8% while juniors were at 37.2%. In math readiness, seniors achieved 26.2% while juniors reached 25.3%, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
As correctional officers continue their essential duties throughout National Correctional Officers Week and beyond, local leaders emphasize their appreciation for these workers’ commitment to safety.
