The Iredell County Fire Marshal announced on May 8 that the burn ban issued on March 28 is being lifted, effective at 8 a.m. The decision comes after recent rainfall, which officials say should help reduce extremely dry conditions and lower the threat of major fires.
The lifting of the ban means residents are now permitted to resume open burning activities. The Fire Marshal’s Office advised anyone with questions or seeking more information about the local burn ban to contact their office at 704-878-3035.
This update follows weeks of dry weather in Iredell County that led authorities to restrict burning due to increased fire risk. Officials coordinated with North Carolina Forestry before making the decision to lift restrictions.
In related local data, student readiness for college remains a focus in Iredell County schools. Of senior students taking the ACT during the 2022-23 school year, 27% were considered ready for college in science, while junior students had a slightly higher rate at nearly 29%. Reading readiness was reported at about 37% for both seniors and juniors. Math readiness among seniors stood at just over 26%, and juniors showed similar results at approximately 25%, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Officials said they will continue monitoring conditions as summer approaches and encourage residents to stay informed about any future advisories.
