FOIA Request to Iredell County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
North Iredell News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1., to the Iredell County Election Department. The request is for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The requested information includes each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. In addition to this basic information about each candidate, North Iredell News has also requested contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from the Iredell County Election Department regarding this request.
