CITY OF STATESVILLE: RSPC Stormwater Spotlight today is the City of Statesville

0Comments

City of Statesville issued the following announcement on Nov. 29.

The Stormwater Division works diligently to improve existing and new stormwater infrastructure in their city which continues to see commercial, industrial, and residential growth.

The City of Statesville received its National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System permit in 2016, and the stormwater management program has been in effect since 2019.  This permit allows the city to drain untreated stormwater into local waterways, such as the well-known Third, Fourth, and Fifth Creeks in Statesville. The City is performing a study of Free Nancy Branch to develop potential projects to seek grants for improvements along the waterway.

The City of Statesville’s Stormwater Division works within the community to maintain existing infrastructure, administer capital improvement projects such as the South Meeting Street culvert replacement, and conduct post-construction stormwater inspections.

One thing the Stormwater Division wants people to know is that “stormwater is a community wide issue.”  The Division is involved with educating citizens on stormwater issues and providing volunteer opportunities to participate in.

One such opportunity is upcoming on this Saturday, December 3rd.  The City of Statesville Stormwater Division will be partnering with the RSPC to host a storm drain marking event.  The event begins at 12PM at the pool parking lot in the Hidden Lakes Community of Statesville. Volunteer waivers and all materials are supplied by the Statesville Stormwater Division.

If you have questions or concerns regarding stormwater in Statesville, please contact the Division at 866-4-1-STORM.
