City of Statesville issued the following announcement on June 7.

Statesville has proclaimed June 19, 2022 as Juneteenth in observance of the official holiday marking the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation that abolished slavery in 1865.  Members of the Juneteenth Committee received the proclamation from Mayor Costi Kutteh and invited the public to the local celebration on June 18 in Downtown Statesville.  Receiving the proclamation are Maggie Walker, Jeff Brown and Sharon Brown.  Here’s more information on the event: https://bit.ly/3xiFEHN
