City of Statesville Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.

As we are in the middle of the holiday season, we’d like to take a moment to remind everyone and ask that you lock your vehicles and hide or remove your valuables when left unattended.

Unfortunately, during this time of year, we see an increase in service calls reporting thefts from motor vehicles and the vast majority are being left unlocked with purses, firearms, and electronics in plain sight.

Please help us prevent these avoidable crimes of opportunity, and make sure your vehicle isn’t an easy target.

Remove your valuables, lock your car, and take your keys. If you see suspicious activity, please call SPD at (704) 878-3406.
