City of Statesville Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.

Raymond Edward Davis, 38, of Statesville was arrested at approximately 10:50 am on December 21, 2022, and charged with the murder of Derryck Duane Turner.  

On November 24, 2022, the Statesville Police Department Patrol Division responded to a call that a subject had been shot while riding a dirt bike on Lakeview Drive.  Upon arrival, officers located Derryck Duane Turner at 850 Park Drive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Turner was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for treatment of his injuries where he was listed in critical condition.  Investigators collected evidence and attempted to locate potential witnesses of the shooting.

On December 13, 2022, Derryck Turner, age 32, was removed from life support and passed away from injuries related to the shooting.  The shooting investigation of Assault with a Deadly Weapon was then upgraded to a homicide investigation.

On December 17, 2022, investigators with the SPD Criminal Investigation Division obtained a warrant on Raymond Edward Davis for the murder of Derryck Duane Turner.

On December 21, 2022, investigators learned of three (3) locations Raymond Davis was known to frequent.  Davis was seen getting into a vehicle around 10:50am and members of the Statesville Police Department were able to conduct a traffic stop and take him into custody.  Davis appeared before a magistrate and is being held without bond for the charge of murder.
