Carol Earnhardt has been promoted to lieutenant in the Detention Center, according to an announcement on April 28. Earnhardt began her career with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in 2018 and has moved up through several ranks, including corporal in 2021 and sergeant in 2024.
The promotion highlights Earnhardt’s leadership and commitment as she currently serves as a Detention Field Training Officer. The announcement said, “Lieutenant Earnhardt currently serves as a Detention Field Training Officer, demonstrating leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.” The statement also recognized her continued growth within the facility: “We are proud to recognize her continued growth and leadership within the Detention Center. Congratulations, Lieutenant Earnhardt!”
The news comes as education statistics show that college readiness among students in Iredell County remains a significant topic. For example, of 1,980 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in Iredell County school districts during the 2022-23 school year, only about 27 percent were considered ready for college according to data from North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Among juniors taking the same test that year, approximately 28.8 percent were deemed college-ready according to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Reading scores showed similar trends: about 36.8 percent of seniors met college readiness benchmarks on the ACT reading section according to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, while among juniors it was around 37.2 percent according to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. In math, roughly one-quarter or less reached readiness levels; for seniors it was about 26.2 percent according to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, while juniors posted a rate near 25.3 percent according to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
These figures reflect ongoing challenges for local schools working toward higher academic achievement rates alongside developments such as staff promotions within county departments.
